Greetings Fleet Commanders! Today we’re talking about the Star Wars Armada Nebulon-B Frigate from Fantasy Flight. This is another of the Wave I Expansion packs that allows you to add one of the ships from the Star Wars Armada Starter Set. In the lore, the Nebulon-B Frigate is a workhorse for both sides in the war; but particularly for the Rebel Alliance. Her role as an escort and anti-fighter warship are well represented here, along with her key design flaw; her long unprotected midsection.
The Star Wars Armada Nebulon-B Frigate expansion pack allows you to add some decent punch for a Rebel fleet and while a degree of fragility, a pretty decent forward battery and protective shield. The Nebulon-B Frigate relies on speed and maneuverability to protect it’s weak sides from Imperial fire, something I found to be a particular challenge as my Rebel fleet was crushed with decisive broadsides my first two games. For all of that, it’s a versatile ship and like the others released so far, comes with a number of customization options that will hopefully play to your individual strategies.
Like the other expansion packs in the series so far, this expansion pack contains a good range of cards, upgrades, and options to keep the game interesting. From Fantasy Flight:
“The Nebulon-B frigate was designed for the Imperial Navy by Kuat Drive Yards as a warship that could protect convoys from Rebel starfighters, but it was, ironically, a much more impactful ship within the Rebel fleet. At three-hundred meters long, a single Nebulon-B could boast twelve turbolasters and twelve laser cannons.
The showpiece of the Nebulon-B Expansion Pack for Star Wars: Armada is its detailed and pre-painted Nebulon-B frigate miniature, and the expansion then enhances this ship by supplying all the command dials and tokens you need to fly it, along with ship cards that allow you to build it into your fleet as a fighter escort or as a powerful support ship. Additionally, the expansion’s eight upgrade cards, which include two unique title cards, allow you to further customize your frigate’s role within your fleet.”
Overall, an expansion pack of the Nebulon-B Frigate paired with your starter is a good addition; maybe not in numbers like the CR-90 Corvette, but it’s a good pick up and will keep you moving forward. Until next time Commanders, see you amongst the stars!
